V četrtek, 12. marca, je našo šolo obiskal mladi popotnik Nolan Michael Scott Ahmann iz Oregona v ZDA. Obiskal je uro oddelčne skupnosti v 8. a, z učiteljem Andrejem Ivanovićem se je odpravil na šolsko kosilo – in kot po naključju je bil na meniju losos, ki ga v Oregonu (zvezna ameriška država ob vzhodnem Pacifiku) veliko ulovijo in pojejo). Po kosilu se je udeležil še dejavnosti Speak up, speak out.
Z njim se je pogovarjala devetošolka Zarja in pogovor strnila v zapisu v angleščini.
“On March 12, 2026, a native English speaker from America visited our school and spoke with the students at Speak up, speak out class. His name is Nolan Michael Scott Ahmann, he is 22 years old, he plays in a band and he has finished his last year as an exchange student in Germany. He is from Oregon.
Oregon is a state in the US that is about 12–13 times bigger than Slovenia, and the Oregon governor Tina Kotek even has Slovenian ancestors. It is famous for salmon and wine, and it provides 99% of the USA’s hazelnuts. The people of Oregon are on average really outdoorsy and they also have a thing for winter sports. Oregon is also known for the Oregon trail, which was a 3,490 km long trail from independence, Missouri and Oregon city that immigrants used to get to Oregon from about 1811 to 1840. Another thing it is known for is Mt Hood.
He is travelling on a budget and has already been to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, The United Kingdom, North Morocco, Ireland, Italy, and now Slovenia. After visiting our school, he went wine tasting in Vipava then he will go to Rome and after that he will go back home to Oregon. He has been travelling for half a year now and he said that his favourite country that he has visited so far is Italy and that he really liked their coffee. His favourite thing about travelling is meeting new people, learning about a country’s history and culture and he likes authentic things.
When asked about his opinion on our school he said, that he was impressed by the students’ knowledge of English, because he thinks it’s great if a person can speak more than one language and he also wishes to learn Spanish one day.”
